Julian Assange, fundador de Wikileaks, ha sido detenido por la policía británica. El representante de la famosa web de filtraciones tenía previsto declarar hoy ante la policía, según informa la prensa británica. El diario The Guardian aseguraba que Assange, quien ha puesto en jaque a la diplomacia estadounidense con la mayor filtración de la historia, iba a declarar hoy en una corte británica después de que sus abogados informasen de que su representante se reuniría con la policía para hablar de la euroorden emitida por Suecia que reclama su detención por un delito sexual.

Las autoridades británicas recibieron ayer la euroorden de arresto emitida por el país nórdico contra Assange por un supuesto delito judicial, según informó la cadena BBC. La orden es la segunda que llega a Reino Unido tras un defecto de forma en una anterior que fue rechazada. Reino Unido deberá decidir si extradita al fundador de Wikileaks, a quien la Fiscalía de Gotemburgo (oeste de Suecia) quiere procesar por “crímenes sexuales”, según especifica la propia orden publicada por Interpol.
El abogado británico de Assange, Mark Stephens, señaló recientemente que se trataba de un caso “bastante raro” porque la acusación inicial contra su cliente fue retirada en septiembre por la Fiscalía de Estocolmo, donde supuestamente sucedieron los hechos que se imputan, y ha sido retomada ahora por el Ministerio Público de la segunda ciudad sueca.
Stephens reconoció este lunes contactos con la Policía británica para que su cliente pueda ser interrogado en relación con la euroorden emitida por Suecia. “Estamos llegando a acuerdos para un encuentro consentido con la Policía, con el objetivo de facilitar el interrogatorio que se requiere”, dijo a las cámaras de la BBC.
Cancelada una cuenta de Assange en Suiza
Mientras la posibilidad de un procesamiento penal se dirime en Suecia y Reino Unido, Suiza ha protagonizado el último episodio del acoso financiero a Assange y su organización. “PostFinance ha decidido terminar sus relaciones de negocios con el fundador del sitio de Internet Wikileaks”, señala un comunicado que hizo público este lunes la entidad financiera suiza. Según su versión, Assange facilitó un domicilio falso en Ginebra al dar de alta la cuenta, lo que ha sido descubierto tras realizar un examen de sus datos. Así, la entidad bancaria considera que está “en su derecho de cerrar la cuenta de Julian Assange”.
La organización Wikileaks ha cifrado en un comunicado de respuesta que este golpe supone la congelación de unos 31.000 euros que pertenecían a fondos personales y otros previstos para la defensa legal de su fundador. También recuerda que a estos habría que añadir otros 60.000 congelados por PayPal la semana pasada: “Wikileaks y Julian [Assange] han perdido 100.000 en activos esta semana”. En el comunicado aclaran que Assange, “como refugiado sin hogar que intenta conseguir residencia en Suiza, usó la dirección de sus abogados en Ginebra para la correspondencia bancaria”.
El texto, publicado a través de su web y de Twitter, recuerda que Wikileaks tiene algunas cuentas bancarias en Islandia y Alemania y pide apoyo financiero. “Uno de los aspectos más fascinantes del Cablegate es cómo está poniendo de relieve las dinámicas de poder entre Estados supuestamente independientes como Suiza, Suecia y Australia”, concluyen.

I do not understand; I understand that Mr. George Bush must be under arrest, because he was the person who planned all those bad war procedures. And the security department did not do a good job with those confidential documents. Julian Assange is only a journalist, and journalists are always searching news!!

Es una vergüenza para la humanidad y para la “libertad de prensa” y expresión.
Lo que está sucediendo a Assange es, claramente, un movimiento del poderoso EUA y sus aliados “subditos” para callar, de cualquier manera, una voz que (con mucho valor) ha estado publicando hechos vergonzosos pero verídicos.
