Following directions in a tweet from @LulzSec Twitter account, Wikileaks World connected to Anonymous IRC server and joined the public channel #AntiSec. The IRC, or Internet Chat Protocol, is the oldest chat protocol on the internet. It is also free. Once there, they recieved the automatic message for the channel’s subject: “Got information/leaks?”. The text pointed us to several ‘network operators’ for the chat-room, marked with an “&” right before their screen-names. We talked with one of them. Read more

Anonymous: US security firms ‘planned to attack WikiLeaks’

The hacker collective Anonymous claims to have unearthed proposals by a consortium of US security firms to attack WikiLeaks, ahead of reportedly planned disclosures about the Bank of America.

Leaked emails apparently suggest that three private security firms – HBGary Federal, Palantir Technologies and Berico Technologies – pitched a plan to undermine the whistleblowers’ site to a law firm which has represented the Bank of America. BoA, the largest US bank, is thought to be the next target of WikiLeaks releases.

Two data intelligence firms that decided to cooperate with HBGary’s plot to sabotage WikiLeaks have severed ties. Berico Technologies severed ties in the afternoon on February 11 and early in the morning on February 11 Palantir Technologies severed all ties and issued an apology. Read more

Unless the sources of the DDoS attacks being carried out by Anonymous are identified and stopped, there seems to be no end in sight for their deluge of operations. These ‘AnonOps’ are presented as global outreach operations of sorts, aimed at assisting individuals and organizations subjected to persecution by governments and other institutions aiming to silence free expression and dissent.

10.05am: Anonymous has conducted a revenge attack on the Dutch authorities following the arrest yesterday of a 16-year-old boy suspected of hacking MasterCard and Visa.

A translation of the Dutch paper NRC Handlesbland suggests that the group hacked the Dutch police site.

9.32am: Anonymous seems to be changing tactics. Operation: Payback could be morphing into Operation:Leakspin. The idea is to highlight the best and and least exposed cables.

Más o menos ya nos hemos enterado de qué es Wikileaks. Y también va quedando claro quién está en su contra. Pero ¿quiénes demonios están tirando abajo las páginas de las empresas que retiran sus servicios a la organización de Assange? PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, EveryDNS, Amazon y el banco suizo PostFinance han expulsado en la última semana de su clientela a Wikileaks, causando graves problemas a la organización. Su boicot no ha quedado impune. El lunes Paypal y PostFinance fueron tumbados por un ataque informático. Hoy ha caído Mastercard. Read more
