Julian Assange, cofondateur et porte-parole du site Wikileaks, spécialisé dans la publication de documents confidentiels, a été arrêté par la police britannique, mardi 7 décembre à 9 h 30, alors qu’il se rendait à une convocation. Il devrait être entendu aujourd’hui par un juge qui décidera de son éventuelle extradition en Suède, où une plainte pour viol à son encontre a été déposée.
M. Assange a suscité la colère des Etats-Unis et de plusieurs pays en donnant accès à cinq journaux, dont Le Monde, à 250 000 télégrammes diplomatiques américains et en en publiant une partie sur son site. Mais c’est une affaire de moeurs qui lui vaut aujourd’hui l’intérêt d’Interpol. En août, alors que M. Assange séjournait en Suède, où il avait déposé une demande de permis de séjour, une jeune femme avait porté plainte contre lui pour viol. Julian Assange, qui a depuis quitté la Suède après le rejet de sa demande de permis de séjour, n’a pas été inculpé, mais ne s’est pas présenté à une convocation de la justice suédoise. Cette dernière a alors décidé de saisir Interpol pour que M. Assange soit interpellé en vue d’un interrogatoire.
RENCONTRE « VOLONTAIRE »
Depuis, après un passage en Suisse, le cofondateur de WikiLeaks est en Grande-Bretagne, où ses soutiens expliquaient au Guardian qu’ils avaient entamé des discussions avec la police pour négocier une rencontre. « Il n’a pas été inculpé. Nous sommes en train d’arranger une rencontre volontaire avec la police », affirmait lundi l’un de ses avocats.
La police britannique a arrêté ce matin M. Assange lorsqu’il s’est présenté pour être interrogé. Il devrait être présenté devant un juge pour statuer sur son extradition, son placement en détention ou son maintien en liberté. Ses proches affirment que dans ce cas, il devra fournir une caution d’au moins 100 000 livres (120 000 euros) et fournir six garants pour éviter d’être placé en détention provisoire.
Or, plusieurs comptes en banque de M. Assange ou liés à WikiLeaks ont été bloqués ces derniers jours : le compte PayPal de l’organisation, un compte auprès de la banque postale Suisse, et la carte de crédit Mastercard liée à un compte islandais ont été bloqués, les entreprises concernées arguant du caractère illégal ou lié à des activités illégales de ces comptes en banque. M. Assange a lancé un appel aux dons pour financer sa défense, une pratique couramment employée par l’organisation et qui avait soulevé des interrogations, y compris au sein de WikiLeaks, sur la manière dont les fonds collectés étaient gérés et utilisés. Les sites des établissements bancaires concernés ont fait l’objet d’attaques informatiques ces derniers jours.
Julian Assange affirme que la Suède a engagé la procédure à son encontre à la demande des Etats-Unis. Il reconnaît avoir eu une relation sexuelle, consentante, avec la jeune femme qui a porté plainte. Cette dernière ne nie pas que la relation était initialement consentie, mais affirme que le cofondateur de WikiLeaks l’a contrainte à avoir cette relation sans préservatif, ce qui constituerait un viol en droit suédois.

Went to the INTERPOL website at http://www.interpol.int on the top right clicked on search, then wrote ASSANGE on the search, then clicked where it says his name in capital letters: http://www.interpol.int/public/data/wanted/notices/data/2010/86/2010_52486.asp scrolled down the page, where it says « IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION CONTACT » CLICK ON GENERAL SECRETARIAT OF INTERPOL and wrote: « Julian Assange is innocent,everybody knows it. » and sent it. XD

I do not understand; I understand that Mr. George Bush must be under arrest, because he was the person who planned all those bad war procedures. And the security department did not do a good job with those confidential documents. Julian Assange is only a journalist, and journalists are always searching news!!

Lo que está sucediendo a Assange es, claramente, un movimiento del poderoso EUA y sus aliados « subditos » para callar, de cualquier manera, una voz que (con mucho valor) ha estado publicando hechos vergonzosos pero verídicos.

Shame to the British government, they call themselves a « democratic country », they give protection for criminals like Berezovskiy and Chichvarkin (a serial murder, by the way), BUT, when someone opens other people’s eyes on their and their allies REAL face, they just arrest this man. I wonder respected Mr. John all the war crimes and the war criminals that wiki leaks exposed were made to face the justice or did U.S.A or any other Government,Institution or people like you demanded the same for them, face the music. Mr. Collen Powell, Bush and Rumsfeld of U.S.A can get away with murder of hundreds innocent civilians, torture and invasion of two countries by simply saying and blaming others that they were misled about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, will you not say the same for them face the music for killing millions of innocent lives.
