It is difficult to get in to see the imprisoned Bradley Manning, who is currently kept in chains as though he were a wild animal. However David House regularly sets out for the military prison holding the diminutive (5ft 2in) US army private. House, a 23-year-old computer researcher friend from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, leaves Boston every couple of weeks on a Friday afternoon after work: « I immediately run home and grab my army rucksack, throw in a bunch of socks and loose clothing, hop on an Amtrak train to Washington DC. Le financement des activités terroristes ou des groupes considérés comme tels constitue une cible pour les experts américains dans la région du Golfe, tout particulièrement en Arabie saoudite. Autant ils se félicitent de la réaction saoudienne contre ces groupes après les attentats d’Al-Qaida perpétrés dans le royaume, à partir de 2003, autant ils se plaignent des difficultés rencontrées pour convaincre le régime saoudien de la « priorité stratégique » que représentent les circuits de financement, selon une note de 2009 obtenue par WikiLeaks et consultée par Le Monde, pour Al-Qaida, les talibans afghans et leurs homologues pakistanais.

Le géant américain de la distribution en ligne Amazon a cessé d’héberger le site WikiLeaks, affirme mercredi 1er décembre dans un communiqué le sénateur américain indépendant Joe Lieberman, président de la commission sénatoriale de la sécurité intérieure. Le site, qui révèle depuis dimanche 250 000 notes diplomatiques américaines, suscitant la colère de Washington et l’embarras de plusieurs gouvernements, était partiellement inaccessible mercredi. WikiLeaks aurait depuis migré ses serveurs vers la Suède.

WikiLeaks: ‘Sri Lankan president responsible for massacre of Tamils’

American diplomats believed that the Sri Lankan president,  Mahinda Rajapaksa, bore responsibility for a massacre last year that is the subject of a UN war crimes inquiry, according to a leaked US cable.

Lawyers for Tamil activists in Britain are seeking an arrest warrant against President Rajapaksa for alleged war crimes committed last year at the bloody end of the long-running civil war against Tamil separatists. Rajapaksa, who is in the UK, is due to meet the defence secretary, Liam Fox, tomorrow and had an address to the Oxford Union scheduled for Friday cancelled due to security concerns.
